The wonderful Tännäskröket Ski Resort in Funäsfjällen is a great place to base yourself for a summer visit to this beautiful region of Sweden.
A range of stylish – and great value – self-catering cottages and apartments are available. We stayed in a semi-detached house, with external wooden deck offering fantastic views across to the mountains.
The interior of the house features classic Scandinavian design, with calming shades of cream, white and grey, combined with pale wooden walls and floors. Reindeer skins and woolen blankets keep things cosy – and there's a wood-burning stove for chilly evenings. A smart, modern kitchen area allows for easy self-catering.

There are two bedrooms downstairs (one with bunk beds) and a lovely, light and airy galleried double bedroom upstairs, with forest views from the windows – sometimes moose can be seen in these woods!
The spotless bathroom comes complete with private sauna – a wonderful place to relax after a hard day's hiking.
Reception is housed in a large, communal building with comfortable lounge area and games room. There is an onsite restaurant here too, serving locally-sourced regional cuisine. We found all the staff to be friendly and welcoming.
In summer, there are hiking opportunities right from the door – head up the hillside to explore the forest and mountain tracks above the ski lifts.
The extraordinary watery landscape around Lake Rogen is a short drive away. This has a distinctive character, with extensive hiking trails amongst enormous boulders, lichen-clad pines and a maze of small lakes.
This area is also home to the entire Swedish musk ox population, which spend the winter months in the fells north of Lake Rogen. If you want to find out more about the mighty musk ox, be sure to visit the excellent Musk Ox Centre, which is based at nearby Tännäs.
There's more great hiking in nearby Funäsdalen, an attractive mountain resort that's a 20-minute drive from Tännäskröket. Take the cable car up the side of the mountain – Funäsdalsberget – and you can walk along marked trails for miles, enjoying some of the most stunning scenery in Sweden.
We left Tännäskröket wishing we could have stayed longer, and already planning to return one day.
