The women’s Coulomb jacket from Jack Wolfskin is an extremely lightweight softshell jacket that offers excellent protection against the elements. As well as being very waterproof, it’s stretchy and breathable – so gives superb freedom of movement during more strenuous activities such as hiking and mountain biking.
A soft jersey lining ensures that the jacket is warm and comfortable against the skin. Because it’s so soft inside, the Coulomb can be worn instead of a fleece when you need a little extra warmth and want to guard against wind and rain, but don’t want to bulk up with layers. The jacket itself is not at all bulky, either – it’s quite close-fitting, giving a streamlined look that is very flattering.
There are two external pockets, as well as a secure inside pocket – meaning you can keep all essential items close at hand. The internal pocket has a handy slit for a headphone cable too.
The integrated hood protects against wind and rain – this is adjustable, but can’t be rolled up and stored away. We would have liked a tab for hanging the jacket up with – when wet it has to be hung up by the hood.
Because the Coulomb jacket is so light – at just 435g – it’s perfect for travelling, and will barely affect your luggage weight allowance. It also looks smart and stylish enough to wear out and about in the city – meaning you can pack just one jacket for your trip, and look great wherever you are!
The Jack Wolfskin Coulomb Jacket costs £210 and is available in Grapevine (pictured), Night Blue or Basil Green.
